FDA Panel Recommends Increased Restrictions on Hydrocodone
On Friday January 25,2012, an FDA advisory panel recommended increased restrictions on hydrocodone. These recommendations were widely reported by CBS Evening News, ABC World News, CNN, The New York Times and Los Angeles Times among others. If approved, hydrocodone would be reclassified as a Schedule II narcotic which prevents refills, limits qualities and does not allow physicians to phone prescriptions to pharmacies. The hope is that abuse will be reduced by less available drug. There are concerns regarding decreased medication for legitimate patients. A certain consequences is increase number of physician visit and therefore, increased costs.
